About

Time to Kill Now is a hockey history blog founded in March 2026 by Benjamin Massey, a former hockey writer whose work could be found at several websites that don’t exist anymore.

The goal is to perform statistically-informed look at hockey history. There are many statistically-informed looks at present-day hockey; the present day is not covered here except in relation to the past. There are many great stories in hockey history: those are covered, but with the statistics beside them where they can be obtained.

It is mostly an outlet to get out the things the author still thinks about hockey, which are all in seasons gone by. It is deliberately nostalgic, not because the old days were better (though in some ways they were), but because the old days are old, and that has a magic of its own. It aims to be informed nostalgia. Not necessarily statistically advanced nostalgia, for the data to create advanced statistics usually don’t exist for the past, or for non-NHL leagues, and anyway the author is not particularly good at statistics, but we know more about the sorts of statistics that indicated really good teams and players than we used to, and by piecing them together, we can sometimes arrive at more interesting stories.

This site is updated on an as-feels-like-it basis.
