Time to Kill Now is a website at https://www.timetokillnow.com. This policy explains what information the site collects, how it is used, and how you can ask about it.
The short version: this site collects as little personal information as practical. I do not sell, rent, trade, or voluntarily share visitor or subscriber data. Information is used only to operate the site, manage comments, send requested email updates, understand aggregate site traffic, and maintain security.
Who Runs This Site
Time to Kill Now is operated from British Columbia, Canada by Benjamin Massey, who can be contacted here.
The website is hosted on physical equipment based in the United States. This means some information processed by the site may be stored or processed outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be subject to the laws of that jurisdiction.
Information Collected When You Visit
When you visit the site, the web server may automatically receive technical information such as:
- your IP address
- browser type and version
- operating system
- referring page
- pages requested
- date and time of the request
This information is used for ordinary website operation, troubleshooting, security, abuse prevention, and server administration.
Analytics
This site uses Koko Analytics for basic website statistics.
Koko Analytics is a self-hosted WordPress analytics plugin. It does not use an external analytics service such as Google Analytics. Its purpose is to provide aggregate information such as page views, popular posts, and referring sites.
Koko Analytics is intended to avoid tracking individual visitors across the web. It stores aggregate statistics rather than profiles of individual visitors.
Koko Analytics may use a short-lived cookie to help estimate unique visits without storing personal information. This cookie is used only for site analytics and not for advertising or cross-site tracking.
Some posts may include charts displayed through the Visualizer plugin. Chart pages may load chart-rendering scripts from Google, such as Google Charts, and those third-party requests may send ordinary technical information such as IP address, browser details, and the page requesting the chart.
E-mail Subscriptions
This site uses Noptin, a WordPress newsletter plugin, to manage email subscriptions.
If you choose to receive email updates, the site collects the information you provide in the subscription form. This will normally be your email address and may include your name if the form asks for it.
Noptin subscriber data is stored in this site’s WordPress database. I do not intentionally sync subscriber data to Noptin’s servers, a third-party email marketing platform, a CRM, or any other third-party email platform.
Subscriber information may include:
- email address
- name, if provided
- subscription status
- signup form or signup source
- consent and subscription timestamps
- technical information associated with the signup, such as IP address, if collected by the plugin
- an internal audience classification used to determine which requested email notices you should receive
This information is used only to send email updates you requested, such as notifications when new posts are published, and, where applicable, supporter-only notices such as early-access or bonus-post emails. Audience classification may be updated from your active supporter status on this site or from linked support providers described below.
If you subscribe to a paid membership, the option to receive email notices is separate from payment and is optional.
You can unsubscribe using the link included in subscription emails. You can also contact me to ask that your subscription data be deleted.
Paid Memberships and Supporter Accounts
This site uses Paid Memberships Pro to manage site memberships and Stripe to process payments for memberships purchased directly on this site.
When you create or manage a membership on this site, the site may store information such as:
- your WordPress account details, including username, display name, and email address
- selected membership level
- membership status, renewal, cancellation, and related timestamps
- membership order history
- payment-related reference data such as transaction IDs, invoice IDs, customer IDs, or subscription IDs
Payment card details are processed by Stripe, which hosts and processes all payment details. Credit card information is not intentionally stored on, or visible to, this site or its operator in any way.
This information is used only to process payments, manage memberships, provide supporter access, administer upgrades or cancellations, keep accounting and subscription records, and troubleshoot payment or access issues.
CAD$30 supporters may optionally submit information for a public Supporters page listing, such as a display name and optional URL. Listings are reviewed before publication. The site may store submitted listing details, approved public listing details, review status, and change timestamps. Approved listings are public while the supporter remains eligible and opted in.
Patreon Support and Supporter Sync
This site may also recognize supporters who subscribe through Patreon.
If you choose to support the site through Patreon, or log in through Patreon to confirm supporter access, Patreon handles billing and subscription management under its own terms and privacy policy.
To recognize supporter status and provide supporter access on this site, the site may receive, store, or update Patreon-related information such as:
- Patreon user or member identifiers
- email address, where available to the integration
- currently entitled tier or support level
- membership or pledge status
- related timestamps and reference IDs returned by Patreon
This site also keeps a local supporter record in WordPress to merge supporter status from supported providers into one access and email-routing system. That local record may include your primary email address, linked WordPress user ID, linked subscriber record, provider account identifiers, local entitlement tier, and synchronization timestamps.
This information is used only to recognize supporter status, control access to supporter content, and route requested supporter email notices appropriately.
Email Delivery
This site uses WP Mail SMTP and Postmark to deliver email.
When the site sends you an email, information necessary to deliver that message may be processed by Postmark. This can include your email address, message content, subject line, delivery metadata, and technical information needed to route and troubleshoot email delivery.
Postmark is used as an email delivery provider. It is not used by this site to sell, rent, or trade subscriber data.
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site, WordPress collects the information shown in the comment form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection, moderation, and site security.
An anonymized string created from your email address, also called a hash, is provided to the Gravatar service to see whether you use it. If your comment is approved, your profile picture will be visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Comments and their metadata may be retained indefinitely so WordPress can recognize and approve follow-up comments and preserve the comment thread.
This site uses Akismet to help detect comment spam. When you leave a comment, information associated with the comment may be sent to Akismet/Automattic for spam detection, including the comment content, IP address, user agent, referrer, and other information submitted with the comment.
Comment Cookies
If you leave a comment, you may be able to opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These cookies are for convenience so you do not have to fill in your details again when leaving another comment. WordPress comment cookies commonly last for one year.
Embedded Content From Other Websites
Posts on this site may include embedded content, such as videos, images, social media posts, or other articles.
Embedded content from another website behaves as if you visited that other website directly. Those websites may collect data about you, use cookies, include third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content, especially if you have an account with that service and are logged in.
Fonts
This site uses Google Fonts to display typography. When your browser loads these fonts, it may contact Google servers and send technical information such as your IP address, browser details, and the page requesting the font.
Links to Other Websites
This site links to other websites. I am not responsible for the privacy practices of other sites. Once you leave this site, the privacy policy of the destination site applies.
Sharing of Information
I do not sell, rent, trade, or voluntarily share personal information.
Information may be processed by service providers that are necessary to operate the site, such as:
- the website host
- email delivery providers, currently Postmark
- payment processors and billing providers, currently Stripe
- membership or supporter platforms used by the site, currently Patreon
- WordPress plugins used to operate the site
- spam, security, or abuse-prevention tools
These services are used only to run the site, deliver requested emails, protect the site, or provide functionality requested by visitors.
Information may also be disclosed if required by law, court order, legal process, or to protect the security and integrity of the site.
Cross-Border Processing
The site is operated from Canada, but the website and its primary WordPress database are hosted on a server in Spokane, Washington, United States. Some service providers may also process information in the United States or other jurisdictions, including providers used for email delivery, payment processing, and supporter-platform integration.
As a result, personal information may be stored or processed outside Canada and may be accessible to courts, law enforcement, or national security authorities under the laws of those jurisdictions, including the United States.
How Long Information Is Kept
Email subscription records are kept until you unsubscribe or ask for deletion, unless retention is required for security, legal, or administrative reasons.
Comments and comment metadata may be kept indefinitely to preserve discussion threads, moderation history, and spam-prevention records.
Server logs and security records are kept for a limited period as determined by the host or site configuration, unless needed longer for security, troubleshooting, or legal reasons.
Membership, supporter, order, and payment-reference records may be kept while a membership is active and for a reasonable period afterward for accounting, dispute resolution, fraud prevention, security, and administrative purposes.
Aggregate analytics data may be kept for long-term traffic analysis, but it is not intended to identify individual visitors.
Your Choices and Rights
You may contact me to ask:
- whether I have personal information about you
- for a copy of personal information you provided
- to correct inaccurate information
- to unsubscribe from email updates
- to delete your subscription information
- to delete or anonymize comments where practical
- to cancel a membership or support relationship where that is managed through this site
Cancelling a paid membership and unsubscribing from email are not always the same action. Cancelling support may change which notices you receive, but a separate email subscription may remain in place until you unsubscribe or ask for deletion.
Some information may need to be retained where required for security, legal, administrative, or integrity reasons. For example, deleting a comment may not always remove every related moderation or security record.
Security
I use reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect information handled by the site. No website or email system can be guaranteed completely secure, but the intent is to collect little, keep it only as needed, and avoid unnecessary sharing.
This site may log IP addresses and related technical information for failed login attempts or other suspicious activity in order to protect the site from abuse.
Business Transfers
I do not sell or rent email lists or personal information as a standalone product.
If this site or its related business is ever sold, transferred, merged, reorganized, or otherwise involved in a business transaction, personal information may be disclosed or transferred as part of that transaction where reasonably necessary to evaluate, complete, or continue the operation of the site.
Any prospective purchaser, advisor, or successor will be expected to protect the information, keep it confidential, and use it only for purposes related to the transaction and the continued operation of the site. If a proposed transaction does not proceed, information disclosed for that purpose should be returned or destroyed within a reasonable time.
If a transaction is completed, the successor may use personal information only for the same purposes described in this policy unless and until further notice is given and any additional consent required by applicable law is obtained.
If such a transaction is completed, I will make reasonable efforts to notify affected users within a reasonable time.
Your unsubscribe choices, consent withdrawals, and similar preferences will continue to be respected, subject to legal or contractual requirements that may require some records to be retained for a period of time.
Children
This site is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact me and I will take reasonable steps to remove it.
Changes to This Policy
This policy may be updated from time to time if the site’s plugins, hosting, email tools, analytics, or privacy practices change. The “Last updated” date will be revised when changes are made.
